Lynchburg Town

Not the old-time tune you’re probably thinking of. An arrangement from Frank Converse’s “Green book” of 1865 (New and Complete Method for the Banjo With and Without a Master) There is an 1848 song of the same name that was written by one Frank Spencer and performed by Christy’s Minstrels - my sight reading is marginal but at a glance that one appears similar.

What Is This?

Long before jazz, old-time, or bluegrass, the banjo was associated with very different musical styles, now largely forgotten.

The music on this site is taken from (or inspired by) period sources from the 1800s through the early 1900s.
